Importers and distributors: checks under the CRA

Whoever imports products with digital elements into the EU or resells them must check before making them available – and can become the manufacturer.

The importer

Places on the market only products whose manufacturer has carried out the conformity assessment, drawn up the technical documentation and affixed the CE marking, and that come with the declaration and user information. Indicates its name and contact address and informs the manufacturer of vulnerabilities it becomes aware of.

The distributor

Before making a product available, checks the CE marking, the documents and the manufacturer and importer details.

When they become the manufacturer

Whoever places a product on the market under their own name or trademark, or substantially modifies it, takes on the manufacturer's obligations. For manufacturers in third countries, such as Switzerland, the importer in the EU is the first checkpoint.
